Purpose: To establish guidelines for communicating effectively with City Council Offices to report incidents, seek assistance, or provide information.
Scope: This is relevant to all operators of the State Operations Communications Centre (SurfCom).
- Overview
1.1 Each local council has different parameters around reporting, Operators must be aware of these for each region and notify the appropriate department when applicable.
1.2 Operators must create an incident for issues on the beach that require council notification.
- Scope
2.1 Operators must notify the local council if there are any dog attacks in SLSQ patrolled areas.
2.2 Operators must notify the local council if there is any reported damage to fencing, beach furniture and showers, toilets, taps etc.
2.3 Operators must notify council if there is any illegal camping occurring on the beaches.
2.4 Operators must notify the relevant Regional Manager of the report.
- Conducting Phone Calls
3.1 Operators must gather all relevant information before calling the local council.
3.2 Operators must remain professional, using clear and concise language.
3.3 Operators must ensure they are providing the correct location for the incident.
3.4 Operators must ensure they provide the most detailed information as possible. Including the severity or urgency of the incident, appropriate descriptions of issues or parties involved.
3.5 Operators must note down each interaction with the local council in the incident log. If there is no incident and it’s an advisory only this must be noted in the patrol log.
