Stations uploading to weatherlink.com fall into two main groups:

  • Cell-based stations comprising Connect- and Enviromonitor-based systems that upload data via the mobile phone network;
  • Logger-based stations that upload using a WeatherlinkIP logger or using Weatherlink v6 software via eg a USB logger or using Weatherlink Live;

These two groups have distinct renewal requirements as outlined below.

Connect and Enviromonitor stations

For Connect and EM stations, the annual data plan combines both cell/mobile access charges and weatherlink.com subscription into a single annual payment. All stations in this class are automatically on the Pro tier of the weatherlink.com service and so there is no need whatsoever to think about ‘upgrading’ to the Pro tier for these stations – they are on Pro tier already.

For non-US users, renewals for cell-based stations should be made via your supplying dealer and not via Davis. Typically, you will receive an automatic renewal reminder direct from Davis and also a more detailed reminder from your dealer, along with renewal instructions but, as above, a working email address must be on file for this system to work.

Subscriptions in this class cannot be paused. To keep a station available for use on an ongoing basis the subscription must be renewed annually and in good time even if there are no plans for active use in the immediate future.

Logger-based stations

The situation is rather simpler for logger-based stations – there is clearly no cell/mobile network integration involved and so the same draconian penalties for not renewing on time do not apply in the same way.

To start with, logger-based stations have the option of using either the Basic (free) tier or level of weatherlink.com 2.0 or the Pro tier. The free tier obviously involves no payments and so the issue of renewal just doesn’t arise. Payment for Pro tier upgrades for logger-based stations only should at present be made direct with Davis. Further information on the differences between Basic and Pro levels can be found within the wl.com plan levels topic.

If the subscription lapses, eg because payment card details may have gone out of date, then your account will revert to the free/Basic tier and you will no longer have access to the Pro features. However, Pro tier should be restored simply by arranging a new upgrade payment (although depending on the elapsed period some archive data may be missing from your long-term Pro records).
