Background

Nowadays remote network access is becoming an increasingly common need among the business companies and engineers. A VPN (virtual private network) connection is used in order to access nodes on a remote network, but if no VPN connection to a remote network is available, a different approach should be considered. The objective of the DDC solution is to allow for users to connect to the GUI (graphical user interface) of embedded devices on a remote private network, where a VPN connection is not available, and where Internet connection is not stable, usually a LAN (local area network) on vehicles.

The DDC is a solution that implements two separate applications – the DDC server and the DDC client. The DDC server exists in a cloud while the DDC client application is installed on a device. The DDC client connects to the DDC server with a unique DDC API and keeps the connection open indefinitely (as long as possible since the connection may not be stable, or a client may shut down). The DDC server keeps track of the DDC client connections and implements an API for the user to connect to the DDC client (Device GUI).

How does it work

DDC provides remote web interface access, without any VPN installation or configuration, to a user when the as soon as the web interface is available on a local network and the device is connected to the internet.

Setup DDC

To learn how to setup DDC on a device, please go to Setup & Installation section, and select Direct Device Connect.
