Quick fix: variable values that contained quotes did not save correctly.
Now they do 🙂
Manula Changelog: What's New in the Manula software (Page 9)
Fix: variable values containing quotes
Fix: Download as PDF button was missing on mobile
Small fix for the mobile version of the online manuals:
The Download as PDF button was missing there.
It can now be found under the Table on Contents button, under the TOC.
Account home: clearer indications of published status
Small tweak to the account home page, to avoid confusion over the published status of manual, especially regarded version status. Each manual entry now has a button showing either:
- View Live, for published and public manuals
- View Live, with a lock icon, indicating a Private manual
- Draft: for unpublished manuals
- Version Unpublished: for public manuals that have there version still set to Draft mode.
Big re-design of the admin interface
Manula has been live for just over 3 years. In these years, a lot of features have been added and changed, so it was time to sit back and re-design a good user interface for the current feature set.
An interface that is both clearer for new users and easier to use for everyone.
Here’s what’s changed:
Account home page
The home page of your admin, where all your manuals are listed, has been updated with:
- A clear Edit Manual button for going to the manual editor
- One month of usage stats for each manual (was 2 weeks)
- Three links at the bottom for all 3 parts of the Stats & Feedback module
Stats/Feedback
The Statistics and Feedback features have been separated from the manual editor and moved to their own Statistics module. The Statistics area can be reached from the chart or links on the Account Home or using the Statistics button on the top right while in the Editor:
Manual editor
And finally, the Manula section where you probably spend most of your time, the Manual Editor. The Editor has been re-designed and cleaned up to focus on its’ main purpose: editing manual topics:
- The Statistic and Feedback features have been removed from the Editor and moved to their own module (see above).
- The Revision tool now opens in a pop-up, opened from a button at the bottom of the editor.
- The Manual Settings are now opened from a button in the bar at the top.
- Same for the PDF generator tool, this is now located at the top.
New editor tools: Set text and marker colors
Manula uses the popular Textile “mark-down” language for formatting your manual topics. This lets you basically do any formatting you want (including text colors).
However, we figured we’d make setting the color of a piece of text a bit more accessible, right from the topic editor toolbar.
At the same time, we introduced an easy way to highlight a piece of text with a marker color.
Re-design of editor tabs
Just a small re-design of your topic editor screen today:
The tabs at the top have been re-designed to make them look more like tabs and to make a clearer separation between the two main Edit/View tabs, and the secondary Statistics/Revisions tab.
New: Easily insert a table into your topic
The Textile formatting language allows the creation of simple tables using pipe (@|@) characters.
But as of today it is even easier to insert tables into your topics, using the new Insert Table screen.

Topic Links now allow Open in New Window
The Link to Topic screen now has a new option “Open in new window”.
This lets you force the linked topic to be opened in a new window or tab.
Remember:
- By default, all internal topic links open in the same window.
This behaviour can now be changed using the new option. - All external website links always open in a new window.
New toolbar buttons for Underline and Strikethrough
Textile, the mark-down language Manula uses, has always allowed you to use underline and strikethrough in your topics (by placing either plus (+) or minus (-) signs around a piece of text).
But for ease of use, these formatting tools are now also available on the toolbar of your topic editor. You can find them in the little dropdown menu to the right of the Bold and Italic buttons.
Image Manager: folder actions now in pop-up menu
Another small step to make the Image Manager screen a bit clearer and cleaner:
We have moved the folder actions (Create Subfolder, Rename and Delete) to its’ own submenu that appears when you click the little gears button to the right of a folder entry.
