Manula software updates related to "image manager"

For Manula with a LOT of images in their Image Manager, opening that screen was getting quite slow. So we have just updated the Image Manager to have it “lazy load” the images as you scroll through.

This makes the opening and using of the Image Manager a lot snappier.

Our Image Manager has had a “Replace” feature for quite a while. This lets you replace the image of an existing entry in your Image Manager, while keeping the same identifier and properties.

Super useful, but sadly this feature was a bit hard to find, and it required moving your mouse pointer over the thumbnail image at the top right of the Image Manager, making the Replace button appear.

Not anymore! The Replace button is now clearly placed below the thumbnail 🙂

Another small step to make the Image Manager screen a bit clearer and cleaner:
We have moved the folder actions (Create Subfolder, Rename and Delete) to its’ own submenu that appears when you click the little gears button to the right of a folder entry.

Just fixed a problem in the Topic Editor that could be quite annoying for some people:

After inserting an image using the Image Manager or after inserting a topic/website link, the cursor position in the topic editor was lost. This caused unnecessary scrolling and searching before one could continue editing again.

After today’s fixes, the cursor nicely returns right after the freshly insert image or link.

We know most of you spend a lot of time with the Image Manager, so it’s an area we keep improving, for maximum clarity and usability.

Two small fixes today:

• Image Manager: After uploading one image, it was not possible to upload the next image without closing the Image Manager first.
• ASP integration: passing a search term (q parameter) AND an Access Key to the Search Page didn’t work.

Two small tweaks to the Image Manager today, fixing three user interface annoyances:

1. After adding an image, it is now automatically selected, for easy instant inserting to your topic.
   (previously, one had to find the newly added image in the list first)

2. The Image Manager now remembers the Sort Order you select.
   (previously, it was reset to Name order each time you opened the screen)

3. When clicking a folder on the left, it is automatically expanded to show sub-folders, if any.
   (previously, it was necessary to click the tiny folder icon to make it expand)

All customization settings for logo’s, icons and PDF cover images now use your trusted Image Manager to pick an image.

This makes it easier to share the same image between multiple customization settings and manual topics.

You may have been wondering about the lack of feature updates for well over a month. Well, this is why. We have been working on a complete rewrite and redesign of the Image and Video Managers, making them clearer, easier-to-use and adding a few features.

For some users, those with LOTS of images in their account, the Image Manager was getting slower and slower. The main cause for this was the Image Manager loading the full size original images into the screen.

We have now updated our image storage system to automatically generate and deliver thumbnail versions of your images, so that the Image Manager will open much faster.
