Table of Contents in editor now remembers expanded/collapsed status of each entry

August 22nd, 2016

editortocIf you have a LOT of topics in your manual, this will make your editing live easier: the Table of Contents in the editor now remembers the expanded/collapsed status of each entry in the ToC.
In other words, collapse a top-level topic once and it will stay closed, which will save you a lot of scrolling around.

Fix: Double height live manual top bars

August 5th, 2016

Live manuals with long company names and/or manual names could cause the top bar to become double height, especially on smaller screens. Not a problem by itself, but the double height bar overlapped the topic title, making it unreadable.

After today’s tweak, the top bar now nicely pushes the content down, leaving everything visible.

Improved look of Info and Warning banners

July 22nd, 2016

Today we made a minor change to the styling of the Info and Warning boxes, making them a bit tighter, with less spacing around the icon on the left:

At the same time, we fixed a problem in the styling of these boxes in the PDF version. These now have the same look as the online manuals.

Fix: Discard Draft button

June 20th, 2016

It appears the Discard Draft button did not ask for confirmation before actually discarding the draft.
Now it does! Better safe than sorry!

Faster loading of topics with (lots of) images

June 16th, 2016

Another performance improvement for the live manuals.
We found that topics including images experienced a slight delay before they started loading. I won’t bother you with the details, but it was related to fetching the image sizes.

Our system now caches this information, making the loading of image-heavy topics much faster.

Fix: variable values containing quotes

June 15th, 2016

Quick fix: variable values that contained quotes did not save correctly.
Now they do :-)

Fix: Download as PDF button was missing on mobile

June 7th, 2016

Small fix for the mobile version of the online manuals:
The Download as PDF button was missing there.
It can now be found under the Table on Contents button, under the TOC.

Account home: clearer indications of published status

May 27th, 2016

Small tweak to the account home page, to avoid confusion over the published status of manual, especially regarded version status. Each manual entry now has a button showing either:

  • View Live, for published and public manuals
  • View Live, with a lock icon, indicating a Private manual
  • Draft: for unpublished manuals
  • Version Unpublished: for public manuals that have there version still set to Draft mode.

Big re-design of the admin interface

May 10th, 2016

Manula has been live for just over 3 years. In these years, a lot of features have been added and changed, so it was time to sit back and re-design a good user interface for the current feature set.
An interface that is both clearer for new users and easier to use for everyone.

Here’s what’s changed:

Account home page

The home page of your admin, where all your manuals are listed, has been updated with:

  • A clear Edit Manual button for going to the manual editor
  • One month of usage stats for each manual (was 2 weeks)
  • Three links at the bottom for all 3 parts of the Stats & Feedback module

The Statistics and Feedback features have been separated from the manual editor and moved to their own Statistics module. The Statistics area can be reached from the chart or links on the Account Home or using the Statistics button on the top right while in the Editor:

Manual editor

And finally, the Manula section where you probably spend most of your time, the Manual Editor. The Editor has been re-designed and cleaned up to focus on its’ main purpose: editing manual topics:

  • The Statistic and Feedback features have been removed from the Editor and moved to their own module (see above).
  • The Revision tool now opens in a pop-up, opened from a button at the bottom of the editor.
  • The Manual Settings are now opened from a button in the bar at the top.
  • Same for the PDF generator tool, this is now located at the top.

New editor tools: Set text and marker colors

April 12th, 2016

editor-colorsManula uses the popular Textile “mark-down” language for formatting your manual topics. This lets you basically do any formatting you want (including text colors).

However, we figured we’d make setting the color of a piece of text a bit more accessible, right from the topic editor toolbar.

At the same time, we introduced an easy way to highlight a piece of text with a marker color.
