The change: There’s now a slider under ‘Settings’, from 0 – 1200, where we’ll automatically keep your pending invitation count within whatever range you set. Note that this runs once per day, so the numbers will still fluctuate.

Why you should know: LI has been tightening up on the amount of invitations users can send, by temporarily restricting them from sending invitations. Users get an email (from us) when this happens that has info about it and links to LI docs. It’s generally nothing to be concerned about, but it is a good idea to try to minimize this happening.

There are a number of factors that contribute to this that we’re aware of, including:

  • Number of invitations sent within a given period of time
  • Low acceptance rates or being flagged by other users
  • Number of pending invitations

There are no hard answers as to what does or doesn’t trigger this, but currently we view reasonable settings as:

  • ~30 invitations per day. Up to 50 may be okay much beyond that you’re in the realm of likely to get temporarily restricted at some point.
  • Keep pending invites in the ~400-600 range
  • Additionally, ensure sure your messaging and targeting is good. If you were on the receiving end of it, how would you feel? Like you’re being spammed by a bot, or messaged by a thoughtful person?

Your mileage may vary and you’re of course welcome to see what works for you, but we feel as of now these are the numbers that will likely keep your profile(s) running without interruption.
