The supervision model applies to:

  • Trainers who hold a Training Officer Certificate rather than a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and wish to train in accredited courses.
  • Trainers who hold a Secondary School Teaching Qualification & VIT Registration and wish to train in accredited courses.

The supervision model is a complementary process and includes the Trainee Trainer meeting with a supervisor to discuss all areas of training on a minimum six-monthly basis. The meeting objective is to identify areas of strength and areas for further development. The process is intended to ensure mentoring, support, and supervision of new Trainers as they develop skills, confidence, and experience.

The ‘D9 TAF Matrix’ includes the discussion requirements.

They include but are not limited to:

  • Any challenges experienced by the Trainee Trainer
  • Any positive experiences by the Trainee Trainer
  • Any further guidance/support/direction provided to Trainee Trainer

The form should include a discussion on the different components of training. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Presenting/delivery skills
  • Course content
  • Use of delivery and technology resources
  • Management of candidates
  • VET / ASQA knowledge

Supervisors

The Supervisor must hold a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. In addition, they must be trained and endorsed to deliver the courses the Trainee delivers. Where a supervisor isn’t trained and endorsed to deliver all the courses the Trainee delivers, additional one-on-one meetings are required (with alternative Supervisors) until the requirement is met for each course.

It is recommended that one-on-one meetings occur following the delivery of a training course in which the Trainee is under supervision. Based on the course observations, this is a logical and practical way to discuss the various requirements. It will also enable the completion of the ‘Trainer—Evidence Form (F33)’ and the supervision model section of the Matrix.

To arrange a one-on-one meeting, please contact your Area Training and Assessment Officer or your Chief Training Officer.
