Area Training and Assessment Officer (TAO)
A role to support Chief Training Officers, develop Trainers, Assessors and Facilitators and ensure cohesion and coordinated effort among members regarding volunteer training activities.
Assessors
Qualified or otherwise endorsed members to oversee assessment activities on behalf of LSV for accredited training and/or lifesaving awards.
Assessor Certificate (ASC)
The minimum qualification required to conduct assessment activities on accredited courses. This is currently the Assessor Skills Set (TAESS00011).
Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
The national policy for regulated qualifications in Australian education and training.
Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)
The national regulator for Australia’s vocational education and training sector. ASQA accredit courses and regulates training providers to ensure nationally approved quality standards are met.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Cert IV)
The minimum qualification required to facilitate activities on accredited LSV courses as an individual. This is currently the Certificate IV TAE (TAE40122).
Chief Training Officer
The role tasked to be the lead training representative at a club responsible for coordinating training and assessment activity and associated administration.
Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (DIP)
An advanced qualification that enables the holder to facilitate activities on accredited LSV courses. This is currently the Diploma TAE (TAE50122).
Facilitators
Qualified members or otherwise endorsed to oversee training and assessment activities on behalf of LSV for accredited training and/or lifesaving awards.
Registered Training Organisations (RTO)
Training providers registered by ASQA (or, in some cases, a state regulator) are authorised to deliver vocational education and training (VET) services.
Trainee Trainer
A member who holds a TOC (see below) rather than a full TAE and wishes to train in accredited courses. These members must operate under a supervisory model to meet quality and compliance requirements.
Trainers
Members who are qualified and endorsed to deliver training activities on behalf of LSV for accredited training and/or lifesaving awards. Some Trainers will be qualified and authorised to train independently, whilst others will be required to train under supervision (see Trainee Trainer).
Training Officer Certificate (TOC)
The TOC is the minimum qualification required to deliver training activities on accredited LSV courses or Train, Assess or Facilitate activities on non-accredited courses. This is currently the Enterprise Trainer-Presenting Skill Set (TAESS00014).
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Training designed to deliver workplace-specific skills and knowledge. VET covers a wide range of careers and industries, including trade and office work, retail, hospitality, and technology.
