The following rules must be applied for all practical and theory assessment activities.

  • Candidates must do as reasonably requested by the person in charge.
  • Any lifesaving signals assessment must be completed before aquatic activity assessments.
  • Candidates must wear appropriate personal protective equipment and swimwear as per SOP 8.03.

The Trainer, Assessor or Facilitator responsible for the assessment must consider the following provisions as part of assessment activities. The following information should be provided to prepare candidates for assessment to avoid uncertainty and confusion.

Pre-Assessment

  • Ascertain, confirm, and respect the various needs and requirements of the candidates.
  • Explain the assessment requirements during the introduction.
  • Fully explain the assessment procedures before any assessment is conducted.
  • Establish any conflict in the procedure and outcomes and arrange appropriate referrals.
  • Ensure candidates are ready to commence any assessment activities.
  • Inform candidates of opportunities for recognition of prior learning and credit transfer.
  • Inform candidates of the opportunity to be re-assessed if required.

During Assessment

  • Protect the rights of the candidate being assessed throughout the examination process.
  • Ensuring safety provisions, including equipment and supervision, are adhered to.

Post-Assessment

  • The Assessor’s role is to mark theory assessments or any other evidence presented.
  • Avoid and report any form of intimidation during the review and report outcomes.
  • Provide alternative assessment methods through reasonable adjustments if required.
  • Ensure evidence-gathering methods remain reliable, flexible, fair, and valid.
  • Record individual candidate assessment results as assessments are delivered.
  • Enable post-assessment guidance, and a fair and impartial appeal process is available.
