What is a TAF Exceptions

All Members must undertake annual Skills Maintenance activities to demonstrate that they have the knowledge, skills and physical fitness required to undertake Lifesaving duties on our beaches. From time to time, members may not be able to complete the requirements of these activities satisfactorily due to experiencing life events (injury, pregnancy, or physical limitation) that deem them unable to undertake skills maintenance activities successfully and are therefore deemed unable to patrol for a period until their fitness has returned.
Trainers, Assessors and Facilitators (TAFs) often find that such events have an adverse effect on their ability to continue to serve their club in the provision of training activities.

Who is eligible?

TAFs who have maintained their award currency up to the end of the previous year (31 December) may seek an exemption to continue delivering training and assessment activities in a reduced or modified capacity. Exemptions may be for a short period whilst you undergo rehabilitation for an injury or an extended period if you have suffered a significant life-changing event.

How can I apply for an Exemption?

Applications are to be submitted using the application form available at the Club Gateway. They should include details of your limitations, a letter from your medical practitioner explaining your restrictions and any modifications you need to make, and a short statement supporting your application.
Your application should then be sent to exemptions@lsv.com.au to be taken to the panel for consideration.

Who is on the panel?

The panel consists of members of the Committee of Training and Assessment (CoTA). An operation representative, a staff representative, and medical advisers may be asked to assist in determining the panel’s outcome.

How long will it take?

The panel will sit within 30 days of receiving an application, and the applicant will receive a decision shortly after. Outcomes may be delayed if the panel seeks further information from the applicant or their physician or if specialist advice is required to assist in determining the best outcome for the applicant.
