Assessment conditions apply during all course assessment activities, and LSV ensures that all assessments are reliable, flexible, fair, and valid.

Reliable:

The evidence presented for assessment is consistently interpreted, and the assessment results are comparable, regardless of the Assessor conducting the assessment.

Flexible:

  • Assessment is flexible to the individual candidate by:
  • reflecting the candidate’s needs.
  • assessing skills held by the candidate.
  • drawing from a range of assessment methods.
  • using those assessment methods appropriate to the context, the unit of competency and associated assessment requirements, and the candidate/s.

Fair:

  • The individual candidate’s needs are considered in the assessment process. Where the TAF applies appropriate, reasonable adjustments to consider the particular candidate’s needs, the RTO informs the candidate about the assessment process and provides the opportunity to challenge the assessment result and be reassessed if necessary.

Valid:

Any assessment decision of the RTO is justified based on the evidence of the individual candidate’s performance. Validity requires: assessment against the unit/s of competency and the associated assessment requirements cover the broad range of skills and knowledge that are essential to competent performance; assessment of knowledge and skills is integrated with their practical application; assessment to be based on evidence that demonstrates that a learner could demonstrate these skills and knowledge in other similar situations and judgement of competence is based on evidence of learner performance that is aligned to the unit/s of competency and associated assessment requirements.

The outcome of an assessment for a candidate is either ‘competent’ or ‘competency not achieved’. If a member does not receive a ‘competent’ status in an assessment component, they only need to resit that component. Should members believe that the outcome of any part of an assessment is unfair, they can appeal the Assessor’s decision.

When assessment evidence requirements are met and candidates are deemed competent, awards and qualifications are emailed directly to the candidate. When registering, members should ensure their email address is correct.

If a member has been issued with an award/qualification, it permits the member to undertake the specific activities outlined in the training and assessment that was undertaken.

Where a course includes bronze, silver, or gold medallions, these will be mailed to the club or provided to the applicable LSV department responsible for the training activities.
