Big re-design of the admin interface

May 10th, 2016

Manula has been live for just over 3 years. In these years, a lot of features have been added and changed, so it was time to sit back and re-design a good user interface for the current feature set.
An interface that is both clearer for new users and easier to use for everyone.

Here’s what’s changed:

Account home page

The home page of your admin, where all your manuals are listed, has been updated with:

  • A clear Edit Manual button for going to the manual editor
  • One month of usage stats for each manual (was 2 weeks)
  • Three links at the bottom for all 3 parts of the Stats & Feedback module

Stats/Feedback

The Statistics and Feedback features have been separated from the manual editor and moved to their own Statistics module. The Statistics area can be reached from the chart or links on the Account Home or using the Statistics button on the top right while in the Editor:

And finally, the Manula section where you probably spend most of your time, the Manual Editor. The Editor has been re-designed and cleaned up to focus on its’ main purpose: editing manual topics:

  • The Statistic and Feedback features have been removed from the Editor and moved to their own module (see above).
  • The Revision tool now opens in a pop-up, opened from a button at the bottom of the editor.
  • The Manual Settings are now opened from a button in the bar at the top.
  • Same for the PDF generator tool, this is now located at the top.

Separate Google Analytics IDs for each manual

November 28th, 2014

Next to its’ built-in view-tracking system, Manula also lets you track your live manual page views using Google Analytics.
Previously, a Google Analytics ID could only be set at the account level, for tracking all your manuals.

As of today, it is now also possible to set an Analytics ID at the manual level, so that you can track each manual’s stats in a separate Analytics property.

Performance improvements for the admin home

September 1st, 2014

Last week, we gave the home page of your Manula admin a complete make-over.
Today we implemented several performance updates to make this page load faster.

For accounts with lots of manuals, the loading of the views & ratings charts had become quite slow, even to the point of locking up the page for a few seconds. Not anymore!

Improved admin home page

August 28th, 2014

admin-block Some of our clients are using Manula to manage a lot of manuals. And frankly, for those users the home of the Manula admin system was becoming a bit messy. So this week we redesigned that admin home page, plus the live home page of your manuals:

  • The Admin Home page now uses a two-column layout, with fixed height panels for each manual.
  • The manual panels can now be re-ordered by grabbing the drag-area and dragging the panel to a different spot. This order is then also used on the home page of your live manuals.
  • The Search Term “clouds” are now limited in the numbers of terms displayed and have been tweaked to better show the most popular search terms.
  • Each manual panel now show the number of topics on the bottom right.
  • The Unmoderated Comments are now listed bottom right in the panels.
  • The Live Home page also uses a two-column layout now.
