Community education refers to any programs or resources developed and delivered to aid in the education of non-members of SLSA. They target specific or general community groups. For the most part, community education in this context will refer to the delivery of programs or resources to develop knowledge of beach and ocean safety.

Community education audiences may include:

  • Corporate business groups
  • General public groups
  • Multicultural, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), refugee or new migrant groups
  • Schools and early childhood centres
  • Tertiary (university/TAFE) groups (university/TAFE)

Community education programs can be delivered in various capacities and depend on the available resources, the desired outcome and the targeted audience.

Delivery methods and types of programs may include:

  • Beach dry sessions delivered to school or multicultural groups
  • Beach wet sessions delivered to school or multicultural groups
  • Community beach safety awareness days
  • Incursions to a school or community group centre
