The National Leadership College (NLC) is an annual leadership and development program recognising young leaders in Surf Life Saving (SLS) aged between 20 and 30 years. Participants come from a variety of clubs, roles and SLS backgrounds. Ideally participants will have attended a state leadership program, however they may have attended similar leadership programs through work or study. The NLC is an essential step in the SLS Leadership Pathway.

The week-long NLC provides an exciting opportunity for young people within the movement to further develop their leadership skills and continue to positively contribute to the success of SLS. As well as learning new skills and creating opportunities for personal growth, NLC will open new networks with other likeminded passionate members across the country, who are also committed to making a difference within the movement.

The NLC is designed to challenge participants intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically. The skills gained are designed to be taken back to clubs and into other areas of the participant’s daily environment, with the aim of contributing to SLS’s mission statement of saving lives, creating great Australians, and building better communities.

National Masterclass

The National Leaders’ Masterclass (aka Masterclass) is an annual leadership and development program for members aged 30 and over who currently hold a senior leadership role in Surf Life Saving with participants coming from various SLSCs, roles and SLS backgrounds.

The purpose of Masterclass is to provide participants with strategy and strategic thinking concepts and tools, as well as equipping them to better lead within their club or workplace. As well as learning new skills and creating opportunities for personal growth, Masterclass will open new networks with other like-minded and passionate members from across the country who are committed to making a difference within the movement. The program will challenge participants intellectually; build strategic thinkers and advocates for change. The skills gained are designed to be taken back to clubs and into other areas of the participant’s daily life, with the purpose of contributing to SLSA’s mission statement of saving lives, creating great Australians and building better communities.

In 2017, SLSA established a partnership with the University of South Australia to assist in facilitating leadership programs like the Masterclass. The partnership also benefits members by providing an opportunity for attendees to enrol in a Graduate Certificate of Business Administration that can give them credit towards a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
