Developing a marketing strategy and plan will be the most efficient way to align the key goals of the SLSC. It is recommended the SLSC carefully looks at developing a strong strategy and plan, so all resources are put to their most efficient use.

Check to see if any SLSC members, or their families/friends, are employed in the marketing area, and if they might be willing to help. Other sources of assistance may be administrators or officers at other SLSCs. Public relations companies, advertising agencies, design specialists and market researchers may also help, however, there is often a hefty price tag attached.

Ensure SLSC members responsible for the implementation of the marketing strategy have a clear understanding of the following different stages of the marketing plan process and the particular order in which one should follow the steps:

  1. Define the specific products or services
  2. Define the target audience
  3. Define the target audience’s needs
  4. Determine how the products and services will satisfy those needs
  5. Establish the required return on investment
  6. Set the marketing objectives
  7. Develop the marketing strategy
  8. Compile the marketing plan
  9. Deliver the product or service
  10. Evaluate the marketing process.
