IT governance is a broad term used to manage and control an organisation’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) components that align to help the organisation achieve its strategies and objectives.
IT governance does the following:
- Ensures that IT assets (systems, processes, etc.) are implemented and used according to agreed-on policies and procedures
- Ensures that IT assets are adequately tracked, controlled and maintained
- Ensures that these assets provide value to the organisation (supporting its strategy and business goals).
IT governance is practically implemented through an organisational ‘Acceptable Use of IT Policy’. All SLSNSW staff and volunteers should know this policy, which sets the expected behaviours when using an SLSC’s technological resources. The SLSNSW Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Team may provide sample policies with the latest IT considerations.
