The Child Safe Coordinator is the main point of contact for all information regarding Child Safe policies and practices distributed by SLSNSW. They review the child safe information and share or action with relevant members of the club/branch. They also respond to requests for feedback made by SLSNSW in relation to child safety on behalf of the club/branch (e.g. respond to surveys; consult with club/branch and feed back to SLSNSW).

The Child Safe Coordinator works with the Executive and members to implement the Child Safe Policy and Child Safe Standards reduce the risk of abuse and neglect of children and young people (CYP).

Everyone in SLS, including Board Members, Executives, Volunteers, Staff, and Contractors are responsible for implementing Child Safe practices to protect children and young people from abuse, neglect and other harm. The SLSA Child Safe Policy 6.04, Child Safe Commitment policy 6.04A, Child Safe Guideline and resources assist clubs to implement child safe practices and provide a safe environment for all members.

Working with Children Checks

SLSNSW encourages all SLSCs to use various responses to manage the potential risks in their environments, including meeting their Working With Children Check (WWCC) legal obligations.

The Office of Children’s Guardian is the regulatory body that oversees the WWCC requirements for people who work professionally or voluntarily in child-related roles.

Refer to the SLSNSW WWCC webpage read about the latest requirements and FAQs.
