At Ras Beirut campus, a full-time nurse and two part-time physicians run the infirmary. At Ain Aar campus, two full-time registered nurses and a part time physician run the infirmary Their work focuses on preventive, curative, and educational matters.

  • The preventive aspect involves keeping and updating a file for each student.
  • The curative aspect involves taking care of illnesses and accidents. Sick students are sent to the infirmary for treatment. The nurse checks the files for allergies or other before deciding on appropriate medication. The parents are contacted immediately if the student is sick and needs further treatment.

In the event of a minor incident, parents are alerted by phone and/or memo describing the incident and action taken.
Major accidents that require hospitalization are dealt with according to the seriousness of the situation. Parents are notified at once and asked to accompany their children to the hospital for treatment. If the accident is severe and the student requires immediate hospitalization, IC personnel will take the student to the hospital, and the parents are asked to meet them there.
Besides the preventive and curative measures, the infirmary offers an educational facet.
The nurse is involved in assemblies on hygiene, health issues, etc., and disseminating information regarding current health practices. Please note these additional health measures:

  • All students are covered by a 24-hour accident insurance policy.
  • The nurse keeps a daily log of all matters. Please get in touch with the infirmary for any clarification.
  • After a prolonged absence due to illness, a student should submit a report from a medical doctor to the office documenting the illness or injury.
  • At the beginning of the school year, all students are required to complete the data form, which the Elementary School circulates to ensure that proper care is provided in case of emergency.

If a student has a medical condition requiring specific medication, the nurse should be notified, and a medical report needs to be sent. Please keep your child home if he/she has:

  • Fever, vomiting, or diarrhea during the previous 24-hour period.
  • Nasal discharge, flu, sore throat, constant cough.
  • Symptoms of a possible communicable disease. (These are usually runny nose, reddened eyes, skin rash, cough, sore throat, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, plus fever).

Please notify the school at once if the student has a communicable disease so we can notify parents immediately.
