A classroom environment is one that is conducive to learning; consequently, there should be an atmosphere of mutual respect between students and their peers, as well as between students and teachers. Different perspectives or concerns should be stated using language that:
- Is supportive of the learning process.
- Creates an environment in which students and faculty may learn to reason with clarity and solidarity.
- Respects and tolerates different points of view without giving up their own identities.
- Develops an understanding of the community in which students live.
Therefore, students enjoy the privilege of being in a classroom where student behavior does not interfere with the teacher’s capacity to teach effectively or other students’ ability to learn.
Students are responsible for abiding by the code of classroom conduct and any other appropriate classroom rules established by the classroom teacher.
