YetiMaze is more than an ordinary labyrinth game as it was designed with rehabilitation of fine motor skills in mind. The goal of the game is to get from the starting point to the endpoint. Objects such as flowers guide the player towards the endpoint and keep them engaged as it is fun to collect them. The game can be played in three different themes, such as summer, winter or beach holiday. The difficulty of the game adjusts based on the performance and mistakes made. This means that if the player stays within the designated paths, the next level will be increasing the difficulty level a little bit, by adding turns and or decreasing the width of the paths. On the other hand, if the player exits the paths repeatedly, the difficulty will stay the same or even decrease. Visual and audio stimuli as well as the collection of objects, keep the player engaged throughout the game.
Settings
The settings can be adjusted in the menu screen before each game is started. You can choose between different themes and a game or rehabilitation mode.
Themes
- Background
- Summer
- Winter
- Beach vacation
The different themes can be selected on personal preference. The beach and winter themes have been selected with colors in mind that would make the game easier for people with visual challenges.
- Footsteps
- Barefooted YetiSteps
- Shoes
The different footsteps can be selected on personal preference. They do not influence the game as such.
Playing modes
- Game mode
The game mode will let you play several rounds of the maze game, while adjusting the difficulty based on performance. Clicking on the red-white button in the middle will start the game.
- Rehabilitation mode
- Straight
- One Turn
- Two Turns
The rehabilitation mode was designed with the idea in mind that therapists can train motor skills and arm/finger movement. Clicking on one of those three buttons will start the game according to your selection.
Difficulty
Automatic
The difficulty of the game progresses automatically, based on the performance of the player. If no mistakes are made by stepping out of the designated paths and into the hedges, the difficulty will increase by adding more turns and more elaborate mazes and decreasing the width of the paths.
Rehabilitation mode
The difficulty still progresses automatically depending on the performance of the player. However, a preselection of the number of utilized turns can make the overall level easier. The difficulty then primarily affects the width of the paths. If the player stays within the designated paths and does not step onto the hedges, the difficulty will increase by narrowing the width of the paths. Stepping onto the hedge areas will decrease the difficulty level or keep it the same.
How to play?
The aim of the game is to move from the starting point to the endpoint, without stepping outside the designated paths. On the way, different objects such as flowers and shells can be collected.
Just before the game ends you can once more gather all the objects that you have collected beforehand, by moving your finger around the surface of the screen.
