Here are some answers to frequently asked questions related to the Skeena Maps Portal. If you are not able to find the answer you are looking for, please send us your questions at info@skeenatrust.ca.

Why is my layer not showing up in the Map Tool?

Some of the larger layers and Remote Layers are scale-restricted, meaning they will not draw features on the map until you are zoomed into a smaller area. Scale-restricting layers improves processing and drawing time.

Why is the layer toolbar in the Map Tool not available for my layer?

If your layer is a Remote Layer, the filter and attribute table functions of the Map Tool are not currently supported. To request the addition of a Remote Layer as a Vector Layer on the Skeena Maps Portal, please send us an email at info@skeenatrust.ca.

How do I exit from the layer toolbar in the Map Tool?

To hide the layer toolbar and show the add data layer icon in the Map Tool, click on the layer highlighted in the layers menu or click on the Default Folder at the top of the layers menu to de-select the layer. See Showing/hiding the layer toolbar for an illustration.

Do I need a user account?

A user account is not necessary to view and download public datasets on the Skeena Map Portal, print pdf maps, or create customized online maps. However, if you would like to save your online maps, are managing or uploading datasets on behalf of an organization, or need access to view private datasets, you will need to set up a free account. See Creating an Account for further details.

Why am I getting different results with the top search bar and the text search bar?

The top search bar searches the titles of all the layers and maps on the Skeena Maps Portal for entered keyword. The topic search bar searches the titles and descriptions of all the layers and/or maps on the Skeena Maps Portal.

How do I find particular layers?

See Searching for layers and maps for tips on locating spatial layers using the Skeena Maps Portal’s native search functions. If you are a frequent user of the Skeena Maps Portal and would like to easily group and find different layers, try bookmarking your layers of interest and grouping your bookmarks into folders.

How do I reset my account password?

If you have forgotten your password or are having difficulty logging into your account, email info@skeenatrust.ca and one of our administrators will reset your password.
