What is a concept?

A concept is a saved list of keywords.

Example 1: bmw OR volkswagen OR peugeot OR citroen OR mercedes OR daimler
Example 2: Agriculture OR Agriculture OR Agriculture OR Livestock OR Cattle OR Sheep
Example 3: vehicle OR vehicle OR cars OR cars OR trucks OR trucks

What for ?

  • Allows you to bring together all the synonyms or the translations of a word, a lexical field or a list of names of actors (competitors, customers, etc.).
  • Using these concepts makes your query more compact and readable
  • Allows you to apply a language to part of your keywords, which is very useful for targeting results in certain languages
  • Allows you to set up advanced searches that are much more efficient
  • A concept is much more practical than inserting your keywords and their synonyms every time in all your queries
  • It’s very easy to edit a concept to add a new keyword
  • Very often, you will reuse some of your concepts in several queries and in several monitoring projects (e.g. “sustainable development” is transversal)
  • Your colleagues will be able to use your concepts in their queries and contribute to adding new words (collaborative)

Create a concept

Themes > (top right) concept > Create concept (top left)

To create a concept, you must complete this form.

  • Give it an explicit name, which it clearly names its object
  • Indicate in which theme you want to make it available (and possibly use it). In the case of the example above, it will be present in the “Cikisi – Community library” and “Energy – Insights & reports” theme, but not in the other themes.
  • Insert your keywords

word1 OR word2 OR word3

  • Choose languages for your word lines (‘query’).

FRENCH > your words will only be applied to articles in French.

International means that your words will be applied to all results regardless of their language.

Click on “create” at the very bottom of the form.

A concept in the search bar

  • Expand advanced search bar (title, description and content) and type a space
  • Pop-up opens and shows you the available concepts

You can insert your concepts by typing its ID (e.g. [1988]) or its full name ([Drums] respect the case) between squared brackets [ ].

It could be interesting to cross the concept “battery” with the concept “electric vehicle”.

Select concepts in static filters

You will also find “concepts” filters in the left pane:

Select them and combine them in OR or AND by choosing the appropriate boolean at the top right.
