Communication for automated upload of data from the SmartMonitor to SmartView is dependent on the network availability at the time of attempt for synchronization at the interval set in SmartView. The SmartMonitor device will automatically choose the most efficient cellular technology available. If no cellular frequencies can be found at the time, the device will try again within a short interval. In order to not drain the battery of the device, the SmartMonitor will not continue to try establishing connectivity, unlike a mobile phone.

For shipments or usage in areas/countries where only 2G technology is available, the synchronization interval should be set to a longer interval. 2G is still a very established network technology in low- and medium-income countries, but it is not as efficient as newer technologies and therefore affects the battery run time.
