17.3. Use of Logos and Symbols

Purpose
This procedure describes the applicable rules for the proper use of Certification markings and symbols in the promotion of certification awarded to professionals who successfully complete the certification process and become board certified with the McAfee Institute.

Additionally, it outlines the actions McAfee Institute will enforce when the utilization of symbols, marks, or language are utilized inappropriately by certification holders.

Scope
This procedure applies to all personnel and activities associated with the use of certification marks and symbols, including personnel certified by the McAfee Institute.

Responsibilities

• The McAfee Institute Certification Manager shall be responsible for the continued monitoring and maintenance of this procedure.
• The McAfee Institute Administrator shall be responsible for ensuring that certificate holders receive the appropriate certification symbol materials, including guidelines for use.
• The appointed McAfee Institute Certification auditor shall ensure that during each audit they report on the correct use of markings and symbols.
• The McAfee Institute Administrator shall be responsible for ensuring that all McAfee Institute Certification documents and records shall, where applicable accurately reflect that marks and symbols are applied in accordance with this procedure.
  

Approved Use

• Certified professionals are approved to use the Certification Logo subject to the following conditions:
• The underlying principle for applying the McAfee Institute Certification Logo Mark for marketing or advertising is to avoid false, misleading, or confusing claims to clients, employees, the general public, and other stakeholders.
• Use of references to certification shall be restricted to correspondence, advertising, social media, and resumes, professional licensures, CV, and education.
• Where there may be ambiguity with regard to the context in which the logo is used, then the client must ensure that any such ambiguity is removed.
• Use of the logo must be such that it is reproduced as per the original without any restriction on size.
• The use shall be such that there is no implication that the organization, goods, or services themselves are approved by McAfee Institute.
• McAfee Institute Certification Manager will review the use of certificates or logos where a client may be uncertain as to its validity and correctness.
• Where the use of the certification or logo is deemed to be unacceptable, then the client must take all necessary steps to remove from circulation any such unacceptable material.
• Logos may be reproduced in any one single color with white text.
• McAfee Institute takes no responsibility for any costs associated with unacceptable or inappropriate use of marks that result from any form of advertising.
• The McAfee Institute Certification logo shall be reproduced as specified in the terms and conditions and the license agreement for use of the Logo.
• Additional information may be placed in conjunction with the McAfee Institute Certification logo. E.g., Certificate Number and Date Certified.
• The McAfee Institute Certification Logo must be fully legible and clearly visible.
• The McAfee Institute Certification Logo shall not be used on websites, social media, or company literature, in a manner that suggests that the company, products, processes, or services themselves are certified/registered or endorsed by McAfee Institute in order to avoid confusion with certification.
  

This statement must include a reference to:

• The name of the certified professional
• The name of the certification body issuing the certification.
• The certificate holder is responsible to McAfee Institute for McAfee Institute Certification Logo use, ensuring that the logo used in advertising or other activities takes place within the conditions as specified in the license agreement.
• The certification holder ensures that using the McAfee Institute Certification Logo in advertising or for other measures takes place within these terms of reference. The use of the logo is limited to legal persons and must not, without the express permission of McAfee Institute, be transferred to third parties or successors or be the subject of an assignment or a sale or of any sort of enforced measure.
• If necessary, other requirements regarding the use of the McAfee Institute Certification Logo will be developed between the individual certification holders and McAfee Institute. Such requirements will form part of the certification agreement and the certificate holder will immediately be subject to such requirements.
  

The McAfee Institute Certification Logo Marks, Ref fig1 is to be used as stated in the specified terms and conditions and the license agreement.
