Welcome to the Surf Life Saving QLD Training Operations Manual or the TOM!

The contents of this Training Operations Manual (TOM) detail the requirements for Surf Life Saving Queensland Clubs, Trainers, Assessors and Facilitators as it relates to the Training and Assessing of our volunteer members. It is intended to be a live document – changing as needed to provide the most up to date information to all of our members.

INTRODUCTION

Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) employs over 550 staff across the state and supports a vibrant membership base of more than 32,500 individuals. Established in 1930, SLSQ serves as the governing body for surf lifesaving in Queensland and oversees 57 affiliated surf lifesaving clubs across six regional branches.

In addition to its clubs, SLSQ encompasses a wide range of programs and initiatives that engage over 462,000 participants annually. These include lifesaving services, community education, membership development, surf sports, fundraising activities, and commercial training.

SLSQ is directly affiliated with Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) and the International Life Saving Federation (ILF), aligning with both national and international lifesaving standards. At its core, Surf Life Saving Queensland is driven by one primary purpose: to save lives.
