Overview
Step 1: Submit ECT Expression of Interest
Step 2: Complete online knowledge assessment (if all pre-requisites are met and SLSQ approves, this will be emailed to you).
Step 3: Attend ECT Induction (if approved, you will be notified of an upcoming induction to attend)
Step 4: Complete required number of Probationary Courses outlined in your individual personal development plan (SLSQ to send you your individual personal development plan after you attend an ECT Induction)
Step 5: Submit final paperwork signed off by Mentor for SLSQ to process

How to become an ECT Facilitator
(Cert IV TAE40116 or Equivalent)
REQUIREMENTS
- Hold a current Certificate IV – TAE40116 (or equivalent) – (TAE40116 or Cert IV TAE40110 + TAEASS502 + TAELLN411)
- Be proficient in the award(s) you wish to train
- Hold current UOC’s for the award you wish to train
- Have a minimum of 3 years training/ industry experience
- Complete an online ECT Facilitator Expression of Interest Form (reviewed by SLSQ)
- If eligible, complete a knowledge assessment
- If eligible, invitation to attend an ECT Induction (includes a practical assessment component)
PROBATIONARY COURSES
- SLSQ to assess competency and provide an individual personal development plan including:
- Required number of Probationary courses to be Observed and Delivered for each award (FA and ART).
- SLSQ shall advise Probationary TAF’s when courses are available to observe or deliver
(NOTE: When delivering a course you must be supervised by a current ECT Facilitator holding a Cert IV TAE40116 or equivalent)
Your observing Facilitator MUST complete a SLSQ Probationary TA & F ECT Observation Form for each course and submit with the course paperwork)
ASSESSMENT
- When ready for assessment, notify the Regional Education and Training Supervisor Education Development Coordinator (ETS or EDC) who will assign a current facilitator to observe you train a course and complete final endorsement
- Form to be used: SLSQ Probationary TA & F ECT Observation Form
(NOTE: When delivering a final assessment you must be supervised by a current ECT Facilitator holding a Cert IV TAE40116 or equivalent that has been allocated by SLSQ)
SLSQ PROCESSING
After receiving the completed paperwork (final SLSQ Probationary TA & F ECT Observation Form signed by approved SLSQ Mentor) from the assessing facilitator, SLSQ will review and process the award.
Member to hold following prior to processing:
- Current Certificate IV – TAE40116 (or equivalent)
- Be proficient in the award(s)
- Current UOC’s for the awards
- Hold ECT Induction award (current)
- Completed ECT EOI
- Completed knowledge assessment
- Attended ECT Induction
- Hold TAF Induction Award (current)
SKILLS MAINTENANCE
- To maintain currency, you must attend an annual Trainers, Assessors & Facilitators ECT Proficiency

How to become an ECT Trainer or Assessor
(Trainer or Assessor Skillset)
REQUIREMENTS
- Hold current Training Officer skill set TAESS00014 (UOC’s: TAEDEL301 + BSBCMM401) or Assessor skill set TAESS00011 (UOC’s:TAEASS401 + TAEASS402 + TAEASS403 + TAEASS502) or equivalent
- Be proficient in the award(s) you wish to train
- Hold current UOC’s for the award you wish to train
- Have a minimum of 3 years training/ industry experience
- Complete an online ECT Facilitator Expression of Interest Form (reviewed by SLSQ)
- If eligible, complete a knowledge assessment
- If eligible, invitation to attend an ECT Induction (includes a practical assessment component)
- Please be aware, you cannot train and assess the same course
PROBATIONARY COURSES
- SLSQ to assess competency and provide an individual personal development plan including:

- Regional Education and Membership Development Coordinator to assign a Direct Supervisor who will act as a mentor and point of contact for ECT related questions (NOTE: you will need to ensure they complete a direct supervisor form for every course that you teach)
- SLSQ shall advise Probationary TAF’s when courses are available to observe or deliver
(NOTE: When delivering a course you must be supervised by a current ECT Facilitator holding a Cert IV TAE40116 or equivalent)
Your observing Facilitator MUST complete a SLSQ Probationary TA & F ECT Observation Form for each course and submit with the course paperwork)
