A supplier cannot use automatic telephone calling systems or fax machines to communicate with consumers unless the consumer has given prior consent to be contacted by such means.
In relation to other means of distance communication you cannot contact a consumer unless:
- they have consented to it (except in very limited circumstances);
- they have not expressed objection to the use of that means.

In Appendix 7, you will find details on information to be given by the supplier before entering into a distance marketing contract for the supply of a financial service. Information to be given by supplier before entering into a distance marketing contract by telephone:
- The identity of the caller and their relationship to the supplier;
- A description of the main characteristics of the service;
- Total price to be paid to the supplier for the service/basis of calculating price (including all taxes paid through the supplier);
- Taxes or charges payable in respect of the contract.
- Right to cancel contract, if applicable, and conditions of exercise.
