Before proceeding you should become familiar with the following information:





Temporary appointments are used to meet seasonal or peak workloads and specific short-term requirements. When a newly recruited staff member who has never worked for the Organization before arrives in the duty station following a recruitment against a temporary job opening, an Initial Appointment Personnel Action must be completed. This Personnel Action (PA) will create the Staff Member’s data in Umoja enabling him or her to receive salary and emoluments at the category, grade, and step under the terms and conditions of service in the offer of appointment.

The first step in the process is to ensure that the candidate has an Index Number. If you have not yet requested an Index Number for the new staff member (see the procedures in the GID job aid below).
