Before proceeding you should become familiar with the following information:






When a newly recruited staff member arrives at the duty station following a recruitment via the Staff Selection System including review by a Central Review Body and the person has never worked for the Secretariat before, an Initial Appointment Personnel Action must be completed. This Personnel Action (PA) creates a record of the staff member’s data in Umoja enabling him or her to receive salary and emoluments at the category, grade, and step under the terms and conditions of service in the offer of appointment.

The first step in the process is to ensure that the selected candidate has an Index Number, which should have already been requested at the time of the offer management. If, however, you have not yet requested an Index Number for the new Staff Member (refer to the “GID job aid” for more information).
