There are two types of motor currently in use:

Both are virtually identical (different paint and stickers) 2 stroke motors.

The advantages of 2 stroke include:

  • Reliability.
  • Simplicity of design.
  • Good power to weight ratio.
  • Lightweight compared to 4 stroke equivalent.
  • Relatively low maintenance requirements.
  • Relatively easy to perform “Roll Over Procedure”.

The disadvantages of 2 stroke include:

  • Higher emissions and pollution compared to 4 stroke motors.
  • Need to mix oil and petrol in a set ratio (50:1).
  • Poor fuel efficiency.
  • Noisy.
