The IRB is an essential piece of equipment for the delivery of patrols, and rescue capability beyond the flags. The key principles to remember to remember:
- All IRB Drivers and Crewpersons are responsible for assisting in the maintenance of the IRB. Don’t assume someone else will do it. Being proactive is key to having well maintained, reliable equipment.
- If you don’t know, ask. Completing tasks without proper training and instructions can compromise safety and damage equipment. Do not go beyond your scope of training. None of the procedures in this manual replace the need for training prior to undertaking maintenance.
- If something is broken, ensure it is reported to your club Powercraft Officer. Damaged equipment should be taken out of service as soon as possible.
- All IRB maintenance should only be done with approval from your club Powercraft Officer. All maintenance and use of the IRB should be logged appropriately in your club powercraft log.
- IRB motor servicing should be done regularly by a professional service provider. Minor maintenance does not replace the need for regular service of motors by a technician.
