If a staff member re-joins the United Nations Secretariat after a separation or retirement, his/her “EOD Secretariat” and “EOD UN Common System” will be the effective date of his/her reappointment. A separation or retirement denotes a break in service. If followed by a Reappointment, the EODs will be reset to the Reappointment effective date, in line with Staff Rule 4.17.
Example: a staff member who was initially appointed to the Secretariat on 28 October 1992, who was separated COB 1 February 2017, and who is reappointed on 1 January 2019, will have their EODs reset to the effective date of his latest appointment:
- EOD UN Common System: 01/01/2019
- EOD UN Secretariat: 01/01/2019
By the same token, if a staff member joins the Secretariat after having separated or retired from another UN organization, he/she will have both the EOD UN Secretariat and the EOD UN Common System dates reset to that date on which he/she joins the Secretariat.
