The following policy requirements are derived from the agreement between the United Nations/Chief Executives Board of Coordination and the AITC. The current agreement is valid from 1 January 2013 to 30 June 2017.

  1. Appointments are for 31 days or more in a fixed period of time.
  2. The staff member is paid a monthly rate.
  3. Letters of appointment should reflect (a) place of work; (b) dates of engagement; © applicable remuneration rates; (d) reference, where applicable, to a Caisse and/or accident and sickness insurance when the regulatory framework of the hiring Organization provides for this option, and the corresponding percentage to be deducted; and (e) whether the engagement involves travel and whether a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) is payable, and if so, in what form.
  4. Conference interpreters employed as staff members on monthly appointments shall accrue leave at the rate specified in the Staff Rules and Regulations and upon separation shall be paid the unused leave days in accordance with the Staff Rules and Regulations.
  5. Staff members on monthly temporary Language appointments are excluded from participation in the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. This information must be included in the Letter of appointment.
