Research project profiles allow your institution to garner interest in the project while still in the early development stage and find research or commercialization partners to accelerate the research into the world faster. Once published, research project profiles are searchable in SeedSprint’s database.

To create or edit a research project profile , select edit on the right-hand side of the project in the Research Projects section. Describe the project by filling in as many fields as you would like, including:

  • Project background – describe the current research project and how it fits in with previous research from the institution or PI.
  • Research areas – describe the field of research and how this project innovates based on previous knowledge.
  • PI/Lab Research Focus – describe the general areas of research affiliated with the labs and PIs on the project to contextualize the project within the researchers’ expertise.
  • Collaboration Goals – this section should outline what your institution is looking for in a partner for this research project, whether it be research collaboration, laboratory services, potential licensing, or funding.
  • Known regulatory matters – provide a description of the classification of the research and any regulatory paths that it will have to go through. For example, which class a medical device is in; if a drug is eligible for Fast Track, Priority Review, or Accelerated Approval FDA designations.
  • Patent Publications/Other IP Field – Attach the specific patents relevant to the project by adding patents manually or looking up patents for automatic addition
  • Milestones Achieved – demonstrate the progress in the research project by adding important milestones. Milestones for research projects may be for example completing animal studies, different stages of clinical trials, creating a successful prototype, publishing a paper, or acquiring federal funding.
  • Funding Received – showcase the support for your research by listing the funding received for the project, which may include federal or institutional grants, accelerator funding, or private funding.
  • Video Links – Insert videos describing the research project, laboratory, research center, or anything relevant to the project by inserting the YouTube, Vimeo, SlideShare, or custom video links. Thumbnails of the videos will appear on the technology profile page and will help make the profile appear more dynamic.
  • Images & Documents – Insert images and documents relevant to the project via uploading files from your hard drive or providing a URL. Relevant images and documents may include journal publications, images of a prototype, or promotional material.
  • Project Summary – This section summarizes the field and stage of development of the research project. Labels used in this section are used to help filter technologies in searches, so make sure to fill it out so that the project appears in specific searches!
  • Researchers/Inventors – Include researchers, their roles, and LinkedIn profiles to help demonstrate the expertise of the team.
  • News/Publications – attach relevant news and publications to show the latest developments and buzz about the project.
  • Twitter – attach a relevant twitter handle (such as that of the laboratory or institution) so that your twitter feed appears on the page, keeping the profile more current.
  • Keywords – tag the research project with relevant keywords so that it appears in searches accurately. More specific keywords are generally more helpful than general ones and will help differentiate the technology. For example, “oncology” is a better keyword than “therapeutics” because it is more specific.
  • Development Tasks – Use this section to outline goals and timelines for further research. This will help the potential partners understand where the activities of the research group are focused.
