The following are the Victorian local rules that govern the Life Saving Victoria junior competitions for the 2024/2025 lifesaving season.

Marshalling

Before each event the Area Referee (or their Marshall) will call upon competitors to Marshall for the next event. Guidelines to marshalling are:

  • Competitors wishing to enter the event must present themselves to the Marshall when called.
  • It is not the responsibility of the Marshalls to walk around the beach calling for competitors. If competitors do not present themselves to marshalling prior to the completion of marshalling, the Marshall is within their rights to refuse entry to those competitors.
  • All competitors in team events must present themselves as a team.
  • All competitors should be sun smart and, where practical, marshal in a broad brimmed hat and top which covers their shoulders. All athletes at junior carnivals MUST marshal with a broad brimmed hat and top covering their shoulders
  • All competitors must Marshall in their competition cap and with the equipment they need (i.e. high visibility vest, goggles, board, etc.), as applicable.
  • Marshalling can take some time while heat numbers are organised, so during this time, ONE Team Manager per gender may enter the marshalling area, if needed.
  • Centralised marshalling may be utilised at carnivals throughout the season
  • Eligible athletes wishing to make themselves available for a composite team are to report to the marshal for allocation.
  • Please note: Team managers are not required to add athlete names into teams events

Dead Heats

Dead heats will be determined as per the Surf Sports Manual, section 2.24.

Any other point score and/or trophy allocation etc. shall be decided by the Competition Organising Committee or by the relevant rules in the Surf Sports Manual.

Appeals

Appeals will be managed in accordance with the Surf Sports Manual, section 14.4.

At all LSV carnivals (except for the Victorian Lifesaving Championships – see below) appeals incur a fee of $100 for both an individual and for a team. If an appeal is successful for the individual or team, the fee will be refunded.

At the Victorian Lifesaving Championships, appeals incur a fee of $200 for an individual and for a team. If an appeal is successful for the individual or team, the fee will be refunded.
