The age group for a competitor for the 2024/25 season is determined by how old they are on the 30 of September 2024. The list below outlines the age and the necessary age group for that competitor:

Please note the following key information relating to age groups:
- Under 7s (ie. 6-year-olds) are not permitted to compete at any carnival. Under 8s are not permitted to compete at the Victorian Junior Lifesaving Championships.
- Competitors may go up one age group in team events only, provided they hold the appropriate Competition Skills Evaluation for that age group. Teams must not be made up of more than 50% of the younger age group. E.g., U10 Beach Relay may only have a maximum of two U9 competitors.
- Under 8s members shall not be permitted to compete in water events other than the Wade Relay (because the Competition Skills Evaluation does not form part of the U8 Age Award/Proficiency).
- Under 13s are only allowed to compete at designated Senior Carnival invitationals when their age group is on the program.
