Before endorsing each club’s UAV operations, SLSQ will conduct an onsite assessment to establish agreed upon Local Operating Procedures. This will be done in conjunction with the Club Drone Captain and Club Captain.

This assessment will identify, amongst other items, risks and hazards, local airspace restrictions or limitations and general beach layout. Following this, a Local Operating Procedure will be implemented for each club encompassing Mission Templates with agreed upon flight areas as well as guidelines for beach set up including the location of the Exclusion Zone. Airspace limitations may be imposed such as a geographical boundary, ceiling height and RPA type to be used.

All Club Operations are to conform with these Local Operating Procedures. It will be the Club Drone Captains responsibility to induct all Drone Operators into these, as well as to ensure compliance.

If a club’s drone operation needs to move outside these Local Operating Procedures, for example, the beach set up needs to be altered due to a Surf Sports Carnival, the Drone Operator should consult with the Club Drone Captain to conduct an assessment of alternatives.

The Local Operating Procedures will be designed to allow the maximum efficiency of the program while adhering to any CASA regulations. If at any time the Local Operating Procedures conflict with safe and legal flight, the drone operation is to cease until safe to proceed.
