These Standard Operating Procedures provide instructions for the operation and management of Sub 2kgs Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and all persons involved in the operation of UAVs that are operating under Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) as Excluded Commercial Operators. For clarity, this means all SLSQ endorsed “club” based UAV operations. These SOPs are subject to change at any time and should be considered non-current once printed. All drone operators are required to have completed the CASA Drone Operator Accreditation with a copy of their completion uploaded to their Members Profile. This is valid for a period of 3 years. It is the Operator’s responsibility to keep this current.

Where any inconsistencies exist between this document, and CASA legislation, the CASA legislation will apply unless these SOPs enhance the safety of operations beyond the standard required by CASA.

All UAV operations beyond “club” based activities will be conducted under the Surf Life Saving Queensland Remote Operator’s Certificate (ReOC). These operations will be conducted by licenced pilots in accordance with the ReOC Manuals, under the oversight of the Chief Remote Pilot and delegated Senior Remote Pilots.
