I07 Energy + Carbon Reduction (Core Imperative)

  • Baselines
    • Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). For purposes of energy reduction calculations in LBC 4.1, Directive (EU) 2024/1275 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD) is considered equivalent to ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2019 (or later) and IECC 2021 (or later).
  • Baselining Tools
    • When using EPBD as the baseline reference for energy reduction requirements, project teams must use a comparable reference building that complies with the applicable national requirement and a whole building simulation tool and model that complies with EPBD and the national regulation.

I-05 Responsible Water Use (Core Imperative)

• POTABLE WATER REDUCTION CLARIFICATIONS
  • Water Budget and Conservation Plan
    • EU Taxonomy. Fixtures that meet the flow rates provided under EU Taxonomy Do No Significant Harm Criteria for Climate Change/Water, with the exception of showerheads, meet the 25% water use reduction requirements of this Imperative. For showerheads and other fixtures listed under EPAct 2005 that are not specified in the referenced EU Taxonomy criteria, project teams must provide calculations demonstrating that installed fixtures are at least 25% more efficient than the EPAct 2005 baselines.

In all cases, fixture flow rates must be substantiated by cut sheets or submittals that align with the reporting specifications indicated by EPAct 2005 or the EU Taxonomy Appendix E Technical Specifications For Water Appliances, as applicable.

I-09 Healthy Interior Environment (Core Imperative)

LBC 4.0 and 4.1

• ASHRAE 62.1 Equivalency
  • For the purposes of mechanical ventilation effectiveness in LBC 4.1, EN 16798:2019 is considered equivalent to ASHRAE 62.1-2022. Non-residential projects may demonstrate compliance with EN 16798-1:2019 – Part 1: Indoor Air Quality and Ventilation Systems in Non-Residential Buildings subsections 4.1, 4.2, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3.
  • Projects must provide the following calculations in accordance with EN 16798:2019: calculation of ventilation rates, air change rate calculation, and ventilation effectiveness calculation. Projects must also provide all relevant project drawings and mechanical equipment schedules.
