1 acre = 43,560 square feet = 4,046.86 square meters = 0.4 hectares

1 hectare = 2.47 acres

Required Habitat Offset in acres or hectares = Project Boundary in SF /43.560 SF per acre (Minimum of 1 acre or 0.4 hectares)

Project Boundary in Acres or Hectares

As illustrated in Figure 3-1:

• If the area of the Project Boundary is less than 0.4 hectares, then the area of the Habitat Offset must be equal to or greater than 0.4 hectares.
• If the area of the Project Boundary is greater than 0.4 hectares, then the area of the Habitat Offset must be equal to or greater than the Project Boundary.

Example Calculation

Assume a 10,000 square-foot project on a 70,000 square-foot Project Boundary:

Project Boundary = 70,000 square feet
70,000 SF/43,560 SF per acre = 1.6 acres (which is greater than 1 acre, or 0.4 hectares)
Therefore, required minimum Habitat Offset = 1.6 acres
