For more than 25 years, SAP customers around the world have been using ActiveControl to help deliver change to their SAP applications in a safe and efficient manner.

Over this time, ActiveControl has evolved in many ways – but always on top of the core underlying technology and the long-standing Windows GUI and bsp-based Web UI.

During early 2021, Basis Technologies initiated a 2-year ‘Web Platform’ project to replace the existing Windows GUI and Web UI with a single new UI5-based User Interface.

Web Platform – Objectives

The key objectives of this project were as follows:

1. To modernise the ActiveControl front-end.
2. To deprecate the Windows GUI (and legacy bsp-based Web UI), to help facilitate easier Customer implementations and upgrades of ActiveControl.
3. To deliver many historical Features that were difficult to deliver on the legacy Windows GUI and Web UI, such as the enablement of mobile device access to ActiveControl.
4. To introduce more internal automated regression testing, to enable more stable ActiveControl releases and cumulative patches, and facilitate Basis Technologies to increase the frequency of ActiveControl releases in the future.

Web Platform – Phases & Timeline

Basis Technologies have delivered the new ActiveControl Web Platform UI in a 2-phase approach, as follows:

Phase Release Timeline
Phase 1 AC9.00 (November 2022) Replacement for current Web UI – available to all customers.
Phase 2 AC9.10 (July 2023) Replacement for Windows GUI.
AC9.20 (Planned for late 2023) Deprecation of the legacy WebUI and Windows GUI from the product.

Deprecation of legacy UIs

Further details of when the current Windows GUI and WebUI will be deprecated and removed from ActiveControl can be found in End of Maintenance Support section of the Administration Guide.
