11.1.2.2.2. Start Event

All process maps require a start event—that is, a trigger that causes the process to begin.

!It is mandatory for users to insert at least one start object into the diagram. Otherwise, publication will fail. Likewise, if there is more than one start object in the diagram, it is mandatory for the paths belonging to the start object to be connected using a system state/activity. Otherwise, publication will fail.

When a start object is linked to another element, the transition between them (known in the Designer as an event) is automatically defined as “StartHumanEvent” on the process map.

*Start objects can only be linked to human states, systems states, and/or subprocesses.

Selecting a start object on the design canvas will display its associated properties in the Properties panel.

• Start Form: This is a single-select dropdown field that retrieves the list of start form behaviors (from the Form Behavior section of the Forms module). It allows users to assign a start form behavior to the object.
  • To define a new start form behavior, select the button.
    • It will display the Form Behavior Properties window.
  • To modify an existing start form behavior, select the button.
  • To delete a start form behavior, select the button.

Note: Once a start form behavior has been defined/selected, its name will be displayed under the start object.

*Users must assign a start form behavior in order to determine the responsible process initiator, the physical form, and the location of the form in the menu.
