There are occasional challenges that arise during placement – these are exceptions and require the involvement of your Faculty Liaison and the Field Director who will work with you to determine next steps.

Should a challenge be identified (for example – your supervisor is no longer at the Agency or the Agency is asking the student to participate in activities that are not approved for practicum) the student, Faculty Liaison (this may include the Agency to determine if there is a solution) will discuss and bring the challenge to the attention of the Field Director.

To ensure a consistent process – follow the steps below should a challenge arise:

  1. Discuss concern at the Agency level by making your concern known to the Field Instructor.
  2. Document this conversation using professional language.
  3. Discuss the concern with the Faculty Liaison.
  4. If the situation cannot be rectified at this stage, the Field Directors will be consulted.
  5. Complete the Practicum Feedback Forms at the end of the term to provide feedback on your placement.

Decisions to change practicum placements can NOT be made by the student without consultation as noted above. Should you leave the Practicum without following this process you may be at risk of failing the Practicum or being placed at risk of failing the Practicum.

It is our intention to support you through any challenges which requires good communication with the team.

For more detail about placement changes and termination please see the Policies section.
