2. Resources

There are a number of resources that must be used to develop the annual district budget.

• The District’s financial management software, alio, contains the module, Budget Preparation System, that is used to collect all requests and build school and department budgets. It also contains the module, Salary Administration, that is used to develop salary and benefit budgets.

• Each year, after the calendar is approved, this resource, Annual District Budget Development Manual, is updated for new year guidance and shared with Business Office staff.

• Business Office staff produce a budget development manual to assist all stakeholders in the creation of their budget requests in alio. Most topics are linked to this manual but it is updated as needed. Budget Preparation User’s Manual is shared with Supervisors and Administrators prior to training.

• The NJDOE has created a budget application, accessed through the website Homeroom, to collect, review and approve the District’s budget.

• The NJDOE makes available each year its Budget Guidelines and Electronic Data Collection Manual to assist district’s with the submission and approval process.
