Abbreviations and acronyms

Below is an explanation of the abbreviations and acronyms used in the user manual. We recommend that you look through these before reading on.

Acronyms

• FMS
  Fleet Management System; A term for the actual fleet management system, which is made available by the vendor and accessed over the Internet. This acronym will appear often in the user manual.
• GPS
  Global Positioning System; A term for the functioning global satellite navigation system. A GPS receiver converts a signal from several GPS satellites into a geographic location and possible timestamp.
• GPRS
  General Packet Radio Service; A term for a packet oriented mobile data service on the 2G and 3G cellular communication system (GSM).
• GSM
  Global System for Mobile Communications; A term for the most widely used digital mobile telephony system. With the introduction of GPRS technology, the GSM communication aims in particular at data transmission.
• POI
  Point of Interest; A term for a particular point of interest (place) on the map.
