All of the Bright World students are full boarders at UK schools. There are, however, times of the year when schools close and all the UK students go home to their families. It is at these times when International students need a home from home, a host family to stay with. We refer to these times as EVENTS.

Once we have allocated a student with a family and provided both parties are happy then we do try and keep the same family for the student for all their holidays.

exeats
Some schools have two weekends per term when they close for two nights. These are usually the second or third week of September, November, January, March, April and June.

half terms
All schools close for half terms each term which totals 9 nights usually—some schools have a two week half term in the first term.

ad hoc events
Sometimes students need one or two nights’ accommodation when they arrive in the UK after a holiday or if they are going home for a holiday and have booked a flight one or two days after the start of term.

In addition, students may need short notice care and accommodation for illness or flights which are cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. In these circumstances we may call you to see if you are available to host the student until they are able to return to school or to their home.

suspensions
If a student is suspended from school (this usually happens if they are caught drinking alcohol or smoking or have been badly behaved), we may call you to see if you will host the student during their suspension period which can be from one night up to one week.

Usually students go home for long holidays. Very occasionally students will ask if they can stay with their host family for Christmas and Easter. We will ask you but in no way do we expect this as we realise this is a longer commitment.

See later in this booklet for timings as to when we give you dates and our cancellation policy.

tips and hints:
There is no guarantee that a host family will be allocated with students for every event as students change their plans so please bear with us on this.
