Bright World will pay you a daily fee of £45 per day, per student, for full board accommodation to provide the services described in this booklet. This will be paid to you online a few days after the start of the event.

Please note that we charge our clients slightly more for homestay as we need to build in a Local Coordinator and administration fee. Please do not discuss this with students as it can cause confusion. Please be aware that as a host family, you are responsible for dealing with any tax payments which may accrue from your host family earnings. Please consult with your local Tax Office if you have any queries or would like to confirm the current amount which are allowed to earn before you are liable for tax. Click here for more information.

Our payment for home stay is a flat rate and does not take into account early departures, large appetites or allow for mileage being paid outside what is included unless authorised by or requested by Head Office. Although we may attempt to pay your home stay fees on the first Monday after a student arrives or shortly afterwards that this is not always possible and there may be a delay if our Accountant is away or the date it falls on a public holiday.

In cases where a student moves from one host family to another, the day rate will be usually be split between the two host families (£22.50). However in some circumstances, the host family where the student is departing very early may not receive payment for that day as the full day rate will be paid to the second family.

Mileage

Bright World will pay you a mileage of 55p per mile as recommended by the AA. This mileage is only payable for the picking up your student at the beginning of the event and then taking them back to school at the end. If you are hosting two students from the same school, the mileage is still payable per mile only, and the cost will be split between the two students. Mileage cannot be claimed per student. Mileage cannot be claimed for recreational trips you take with your student at your choice. Occasionally, however, if a student specifically asks you to take them somewhere, please get in touch with the Head Office to check if you can claim mileage for this trip. Usually, provided we have sufficient funds for the trip we will agree and will inform the parent overseas. This avoids unexpected bills being sent to our clients. You should should make any mileage claims within 1 week of your journey. Late claims for mileage may not be honoured by us if student funds have been depleted by this point or if the student has already left the programme. Mileage claims are normally paid within a week, however this may take slightly longer during busy periods, such as after the half term.

meals out and entrance fees

Meals are included in your host family fee and therefore if you choose to take your student out for breakfast, lunch or dinner you cannot claim extra money back or expect them to pay. However, if you are going out for the day you are not expected to pay for entrance fees or snacks during the day. We suggest you make a packed lunch and then if they want to eat more you must make it clear that you are not able to pay for that. It is advisable to be very up front with students about any cinema trips, days out etc to make it clear that you are not covering the costs, how much it is and check they have the money to cover it. If you find it difficult to discuss this with them then please contact your Local Coordinator who will be happy to do so.
