host families collect and drop their students back to school

Each time a host family has a student/s staying with them, the host family must on every occasion pick up the student from school and take them back to their house. If you are not able to do this then you should not proceed with your host family application.

The host family should check the name of the boarding house and the exact pick up details as per the confirmation sent from the Guardianship Care Manager prior to the hosting period. Host families are asked to pick up their students from school because this is what we promise to students and parents and because it is nice for the student to have their hosts smiling face greet them. Bright World also asks host families to pick up their students. This is because the price of a taxi for a reasonably short journey would be too high and having a familiar face picking them up is much more friendly. In exceptional circumstances, if you are unable to pick up or drop off your student then please get in touch with the office or call the emergency phone out of hours and we will make alternative arrangements.

Transfers from host families to airports and from airports to host families are all arranged by Bright World. This is because there can be very long waiting times at the airport which can put host families in difficult positions, if they don’t have the time to wait or have multiple students to escort. When Bright World has arranged the transfer to/from the host family to the airport, a transfer confirmation will be sent to the host family confirming all the details. These details will include pick up time, pick up date, passengers, driver name, contact number and flight details. If there is an issue with an airport transfer please call our 24/7 emergency phone on 01273 836060, where someone will be able to help.

Transporting students safely

Families should make sure they have sufficient and comprehensive cover on their car insurance to cover transporting their student free of charge or just claiming mileage. Standard car insurance policies cover the holder for a minimum of third party claims whilst the car is being used for domestic, social and pleasure purposes, but not for business. If in doubt, you should consult your insurer.

We ask families to take responsibility for ensuring that the student travels safely in their car by wearing the correct seatbelt.

There are laws relating to car seats for the under 12s and according the weight and height of children. Host families are obliged to comply with these laws and should consult the following advice:
