The SLSA National Insurance Program is designed to provide broad coverage to all affiliated Clubs and Associations across Australia. This coverage is provided by Marsh Insurance.
In Queensland, cover is available to the State Association, Branches, and Clubs (including SLS Supporters Clubs). Insurance Protection is provided under two categories of cover:
- Automatic Cover, which is provided to all Clubs as part of their affiliation with SLSQ and is invoiced by the State body as part of affiliation; and
- Customised Cover, which Clubs and other entities can purchase individually through Marsh in order to access cover that is tailored to Surf Life Saving and offered at market competitive prices.
If your club is hosting a participation event that is open to members of the public, a levy may be imposed to address the additional risk. By acting as an event promoter or organiser, your club does expose itself to any legal action should an adverse incident occur during that event. Unfortunately, waivers and release forms signed by participants are often not enough to protect the club from legal liability in the event of a claim.
In order to stage an event, the SLSQ Event Application Form must be submitted to Branch.WHEN SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION:
- Must be submitted a minimum of 14 days prior to the event.
- Be clear and concise with the information provided.
- Attach where indicated required, additional documentation (e.g. Certificates of Currency, schedules/ # programs, maps and other approvals from relevant authorities or government agencies e.g. road closures).
- Save the application as a new file using the following naming convention: Event Name/ Club/ Event Date (Day Month Year). The file should be one document only with all relevant documents attached
- Send the completed and signed application, with all documentation attached, to the Branch for review who will then send to SLSQ.
- Once the completed application and all supporting documentation is received, SLSQ will provide an outcome within 5 business days
- Applications that are not approved by SLSQ are not covered by insurances.
